This workshop goes over techniques useful for doing fieldwork related to demography, urban geography, and economic geography. Topics include developing a meaningful research question, identifying the perspective you are doing your research from, sampling methods, identifying the temporal and spatial scope of your study, and using both primary (interviews, surveys) and secondary sources (e.g. literature review, existing datasets). That said, the best way to learn fieldwork is by doing it, so this workshop also has two practice fieldwork activities that we work through as a group.
